Hotel Westerkamp

Tradition since 1860

More than 157 years of traditional hospitality & expertise for the benefit of our guests… This slogan reflects the philosophy of the Westerkamp hotel, where refined enjoyment of life & joie de vivre have strengthened the awareness of traditional hospitality. In the middle of the last century, the Bremer Straße was an important connection for messengers and market carts from the “Wittlagischen” to the city. So what could have been more obvious in 1860 than to open a carriage company with a supply station for horses and a pub with accommodation here on the outskirts of the town. But master baker Bernhard Westerkamp also offered groceries and even ran a small new brewery.

In 1887, the innkeeper founded the “Innkeepers’ Association”. Between 1930 and 1932, a large hall for weddings and festivities was added to the existing premises. Before the Second World War, the innkeeper gave up the colonial goods and bakery business and devoted himself exclusively to catering. In 1944, the World War II bombs completely destroyed the buildings, except for the dining room. Reconstruction of the inn began, but it was not until the fourth generation, Heinz and Irmgard Westerkamp, that the business flourished again. A breakfast and conference room and new hotel rooms were added in 1960. In 1978, Heinz-Bernhard Westerkamp took over the concession for the business in the 5th generation and extensive renovation work was again carried out around the traditional house. In 1983, a fully automatic bowling alley was installed and a garden restaurant was redesigned. After the hotel’s entire furnishings were renewed in 1988, the future seemed secure. But a fire on the first floor in November 1991 dashed all hopes. With a great deal of effort and hard work, the Hotel Westerkamp developed into the commercial concept it is today.

Since the beginning of 2007, David Westerkamp’s team, now in its 6th generation, has been managing the traditional hotel, which now has 48 comfortable hotel rooms, 2 restaurants, 1 beer bar, 6 conference rooms, a spacious wellness area and 1 bowling alley.
